Therapy for Parents

Parenting is one of the most psychologically demanding things adults do — and one of the least supported.

The love is real. So is the exhaustion, the self-doubt, the loss of self, the strain on your relationship, and the anxiety about whether you're doing it right. Most parents spend their energy managing their children's needs with very little left over for their own. Therapy creates a space where the parent — not the parenting — is the focus.

What brings parents to therapy

  • Anxiety about your children's wellbeing, development, or future that's hard to turn off.
  • The identity shift of parenthood — losing track of who you are outside of your role as a parent.
  • Relationship strain: parenting stress affecting your partnership, or navigating co-parenting after separation.
  • Repeating patterns from your own upbringing that you don't want to pass on.
  • Postpartum depression or anxiety (see also our Postpartum & Grief page).
  • Parenting a child with significant needs — medical, behavioral, or developmental — and the toll that takes.
  • Grief for the parent you wanted to be, or the childhood you wanted to give your child.

What therapy for parents looks like

This is individual therapy — the focus is on you, not your child. We don't assess your parenting or tell you what to do differently. We help you understand what you're carrying, where it's coming from, and how to relate to yourself with more compassion and less judgment.

That work tends to make parenting easier — not by changing your children, but by changing what you bring into the room with them.

Telehealth across Oregon

All sessions are via telehealth. We work with adults across Oregon — including parents who need the flexibility that comes with not having to leave the house.
